    The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has contracted through ZemiTek partnered with CAMRIS International, to recruit and hire a qualified individual for the following position:

     

    Title:  Power Africa Briefing Specialist

    BACKGROUND 

    More than 69 percent of the population of sub-Saharan Africa has no access to electricity -- and that number rises to more than 85 percent in rural areas. And yet, the region has significant potential to develop clean, geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar energy.

     

    Power Africa will bridge the gap between Africa’s power shortage and its economic potential by working with other U.S. Government Agencies, African Governments, NGOs, and Private Sector Partners to take the steps needed to building out power generation, transmission, and expanding the reach of mini-grid and off-grid solutions.

    Responsibilities

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Office Activity Coordination                                                                                                      50%

    • Implement knowledge of management principles, organizational theory, along with knowledge of standardized administrative practices and procedures to conduct studies of processes in various organizations to identify, analyze, and recommend solutions;
    • Follows and execute the instructions and directives as such from the Coordinator, Deputy Coordinators, the Program Office Director, keeping them regularly informed of key issues related to all actions, briefers and memorandum;
    • Relates time sensitive messages and instructions to staff and others in a clear and consistent manner and ensure that important information is shared throughout the team for situational awareness and a common operating picture;
    • Communicates - completely, concisely and accurately - in response to numerous written briefing requirements sometimes simultaneously for Power Africa reporting;
    • Successfully organizes and maintain the daily/weekly assignments, scheduling, planning events, maintaining visibility on multiple calendars for deconfliction, juggling competing tasks and responsibilities that include no-notice taskings and short turnaround times, and following-up on open/unresolved items. S/he must be able to prioritize competing tasks and responsibilities and shift priorities when required.

    Correspondence & Report Processing                                                                                        40%

    • Reads incoming correspondence, publications, regulations, and directives that may affect the organization. Determines the ones that can be acted upon personally and takes necessary action.   Obtains clarification of instructions from originating offices or appropriate focal points on own initiative.  Brings significant items in reports, files and correspondence to the supervisor’s attention.
    • Establishes control records on incoming and outgoing memorandums and action documents, following up on work in-progress to ensure timely action.
    • Receives requests from other offices within the agency for information concerning programs under the supervisor’s control. Assembles requested information from available background data, or follows up to see that subordinates submit the required answers within the specified time.
    • Personally prepares administrative reports and composes correspondence on own initiative, based on knowledge of the supervisor’s views and desires.
    • Reviews documents requiring coordination by the supervisor for conformance with regulations, grammar, format, and special policies of the organization. Verifies that content has been coordinated, is accurate, and is in compliance with established policies.  Returns materials to the originator for correction if they do not comply with known policies or if correspondence rules have not been followed.

    Ad hoc responsibilities                                                                                                               10%

    • Respond flexibly and capably to a wide range of work-related requirements such as: 1) inquiries from USG departments/agencies, Congress and the public; 2) traditional and VIP visits; and 3)  ad hoc assignments as dictated by unforeseen requirements at the discretion of the Deputy Coordinators and/or Coordinator or one of their designees.

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATIONS and/or EXPERIENCE:

    • Bachelor’s degree with-5 years of professional office experience or a masters degree with 2 years of experience.
    • Requires proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office, Google Applications and Gmail
    • Energy experience and/or knowledge of sub-Saharan Africa is preferred.
    • US citizenship with the ability to obtain a secret clearance

     

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Oral and written communications skills and the ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

     

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
